Project and Programme Types

Between fiscal years 1996 and 2002, the RF project has collected information on around 56,000 projects and programmes, from both donors and developing countries and countries in transition (DC/CiT). The survey includes questions for each project/programme on title, country of implementation, duration and disbursed amount. A question that is not often filled in is the type of project/programme. For only 7,600 projects/programmes, respondents have indicated this information: 4,936 were reported by donors and 2,664 by DC/CiT.

Four project/programme types account for about three quarters of all donor and DC/CiT projects and programmes as reported in the sample:

Four project/programme types account for about three quarters of all donor and DC/CiT projects and programmes as reported in the sample:
- Information, education, communication (IEC)
- Research on male involvement
- Service delivery
- Advocacy
The distribution across project/programme types is largely the same for both donors and DC/CiT. There are however, a few exceptions. While DC/CiT emphasise advocacy, this type accounts for only one in eight projects/programmes reported by donors. Service delivery and research into male involvement are much more important to donors (each one accounts for around one-fifth of all donor projects/programmes) than to DC/CiT (one in seven and one in eight projects/programmes, respectively). Despite this, DC/CiT are more involved in general male involvement issues.
